Pediatric Epilepsy – Diagnosis

As in every case treated at ANA, each candidate for surgery is reviewed by our team of experts, and a consensus decision is made with both medical staff and in constant and methodical communication with the child’s family. A pediatric epilepsy diagnosis is a multi-step process; usually involving patient history, neurological exams, laboratory test, and other clinical studies to evaluate the cause of the epilepsy and to determine whether the seizure disorder falls within a recognized syndrome. An EEG (electroencephalogram) will be done to check the electrical activity in the brain. People with epilepsy will often have abnormal electrical activity seen on this test. In some cases, the test may show the area in the brain where the seizures start.
